In the days of the Armada, a fleet of warships, the scuttlebutt was the rumor or gossip that would spread throughout the ship. Today, Armada Law Corp presents The Scuttlebutt, a daily summery of news articles that people within the cannabis, hemp and plant medicine industries are chatting about along with links to the full articles.
In today's news:
#psychedelics - " A bill filed in the New Jersey Assembly would legalize the possession of “magic mushrooms” despite the ongoing federal prohibition of psilocybin. The passage of the bill would set the stage to nullify federal prohibition in practice and effect.
A coalition of three Democrats introduced Assembly Bill 4911 (A4911) on Dec. 5. Titled the “Psilocybin Behavioral Health Access and Services Act,” the legislation would legalize the possession and distribution of up to 4 grams of psilocybin for adults 21 and over. The bill would also allow adults to cultivate mushrooms capable of producing psilocybin for personal use as long as they keep them away from minors.
The proposed law would also create the legal and regulatory structure to establish psilocybin service centers for treating patients and for the commercial production of psilocybin. The bill would create the Department of Health Psilocybin Behavioral Health Access and Services Advisory Board to oversee the process."
#psychedelicresearch - "Our study included 154 adult patients with depression. One-third received a single infusion of ketamine and returned a day later to begin four consecutive days – about 30 to 40 minutes total each day – of our novel digital exercises. That is, we showed them repeated pairings of self-related words and images – such as the letter “I” and photos of the patient – paired up repeatedly with positive cues. These include positive words like “good,” “sweet” and “lovable” as well as photos of strangers smiling....
We found that after just a single intravenous infusion of ketamine, patients experienced relief from depression symptoms for at least one month as long as they were assigned to the group that completed the digital exercises within the first five days. Compared with those in the control saline group, both of the groups that received a ketamine infusion experienced substantial relief from depression on the first day, prior to any computer training.
However, whereas the control group who went on to receive the “sham” computer training began to experience the return of depression symptoms in the subsequent 1.5 weeks or so, the group that received ketamine followed by exposure to positive conditioning continued to report decreased depression severity all the way out to the last follow-up interview, one month after ketamine."

#californiacannabis - "The California Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board (“Board”) voted to adopt a non-emergency COVID-19 Prevention regulation. The new regulation is submitted to the Office of Administrative Law (“OAL”) for approval. The OAL has 30 days to approve the new regulation. Once approved, the regulation will remain in effect for two years after the effective date....
While many of the requirements of the Emergency Temporary Standards (“ETS”) remain in effect, there are new provisions."

#cannabispolitics - "Voters in November approved an amendment to Maryland's constitution legalizing adult-use recreational marijuana by a 2-to-1 margin. But cannabis is not yet, strictly speaking, legal. The ability of adults to buy the drug starting July 1 hinges on lawmakers passing legislation governing licensing, regulation and taxation and dodging the looming threat of lawsuits.
Failure to do so comes with the risk of ceding a large portion of a potentially $2 billion market to illicit black market sales.
“The issue we face is coming up with a licensing structure that allows legal purchases while at the same time balancing other issues,” said Del. Luke Clippinger, D-Baltimore. “It is challenging. We don't have all the answers as of yet.”"
