#psychedelics – “The Department of Veterans Affairs is now participating in at least five trials of the drugs in New York, California, and Oregon. That reverses a decades-long abandonment of government research on psychedelics.
In the 1950’s, scientists saw huge potential in using the drugs to treat addiction and other psychiatric conditions. But when recreational use of the substances grew in the 1960s and was met with a war on drugs, the research came to a halt.
In recent years, studies have resumed at hospitals and universities around the country.”
#psychedelics – Michigan – “On Monday evening, Ferndale City Council unanimously approved a resolution to decriminalize entheogenic plants and fungi like psilocybin mushrooms, Ayahuasca, and Dimethyltryptamine (aka DMT).
This doesn’t mean these psychedelic substances are completely legal, but the “investigation and arrest of persons for planting, cultivating, purchasing, transporting, distributing, engaging in practices with, or possessing Entheogenic Plants or plant compounds which are on the Federal Schedule 1 list shall be the lowest law enforcement priority for the City of Ferndale,” according to the resolution.”
#cannabislaw – “A California company has filed lawsuits in Washington federal court claiming two Puget Sound-area firms have infringed its technologies that extract oils and compounds from plants including cannabis.
Root Sciences LLC and Eden Labs LLC have both incorporated technologies and methods patented by Capna IP Capital LLC in order to manufacture, distribute and sell commercial ethanol extractors and distillers, according to Capna’s lawsuits filed Tuesday. These industrial devices can be used to, among other things, extract “cannabis and hemp oils from plants,” Capna said in its supporting documents filed alongside the lawsuits.
Capna claims it owns U.S. Patent Nos. 10,507,407 and 10,814,248, both developed by Yevgeniy Galyuk. They were trademarked in December 2019 and October 2020, respectively, according to the suits. Both are described as “[m]ethods to reduce chlorophyll co-extraction through extraction of select moieties essential oils and aromatic isolates.””
#cannabislaw – “A six-year saga in Georgia federal court over products used to clean up the odor of smoking products has resulted in a nearly $2 million jury verdict against a wholesaler accused of selling knockoffs of a line of air fresheners, incense sticks and sprays that are sold in stores under the brand name Blunteffects.
An eight-person jury entered a verdict form Wednesday in favor of Noorani Trading Inc., based in the Atlanta suburb of Conyers, ending a trial in front of U.S. District Judge Leigh Martin May that had pitted a handful of local companies against each other.
Noorani sued in 2017, bringing Amit F. Bijani and his mother, Nafisa Bijani, along with various brands they operated like Star Importers & Wholesalers and AB International, to court over allegations of selling products that were packaged similarly to Noorani’s line of Blunteffects products that “are effective at eliminating odors, and provide unique scents of premium quality.”
Now a jury says the pair and the affiliated companies owe Noorani a total of $1.9 million.”
#cannabisindustry – “Track-and-trace software provider Metrc is threatening to shutter the accounts of more than 100 Michigan cannabis companies over missed monthly payments, creating turmoil in the roughly $2 billion market.
The state’s top marijuana regulator interceded Tuesday, convincing Metrc to agree to a 30-day moratorium on the suspension of accounts, MJBizDaily confirmed.”
